Measure an SL-1200M3D

Six readings establish the body, feet, platter, mat and counterweight. Take them in millimetres with the feet left at the same adjustment throughout. Report your measured values and their approximate precision.

Unplug the deck, fit the stylus guard and clamp the arm. Only the mat needs to come off. Leave the cabinet closed, and leave the arm and counterweight assembled.

Reference specimen readings · 2026-10-28

Owner-reported caliper readings; measurement uncertainty is unreported. The platter rise was described as approximate. These are specimen readings, not factory tolerances.

A · Table to flat silver top; feet at the captured adjustment.
82 mm
B · Flat silver top to underside of black base, excluding feet.
55 mm
C · Approximate; flat silver top to metal platter surface.
≈11 mm
D · Felt mat on this specimen, not the factory rubber mat.
1.5 mm
E · Silver counterweight outside diameter.
30 mm
F · Front of numbered dial to rear of silver weight, excluding shaft.
30 mm
Silver cabinet edge chamfer; a 45° section is assumed pending a close-up.
2 mm
Black lower-base bottom edge radius; corners remain sharp in plan.
15 mm

Derived exposed feet: 27 mm at the captured setting. Metal platter: approximately 93 mm above the table; felt surface: approximately 94.5 mm. The mat is felt, so these readings do not describe the factory rubber mat.

Adjustable feet have lower knurling, an upper silver ring and cylindrical mounting receptacles under the base. Foot diameters, travel and socket sizes are unmeasured.

ABCD · mat thicknessSIDE VIEW · SCHEMATIC, NOT TO SCALETABLE DATUM
A, B and C use the same flat cabinet-top datum. A − B is a useful consistency check on foot height.

01Six measurements

A

Table → cabinet top

Vertical height from the table to the flat silver top surface. Use a clear patch beside the pitch fader, away from the bevel and controls.

B

Cabinet body height

Flat silver top → flat underside of the black base, excluding the feet. Keep the same vertical direction as A. A − B gives the exposed foot height.

C

Platter above cabinet

Flat cabinet top → top surface of the metal platter, with the mat lifted off. Use the flat platter surface, not the strobe slope or spindle.

D

Rubber mat thickness

Measure the mat at its edge with very light jaw pressure. Say whether it is the original rubber mat or a replacement/slipmat.

E

Counterweight diameter

Largest outside diameter of the silver counterweight. Leave it fitted and the arm clamped.

F

Counterweight total length

Along the rear arm shaft, from the front of the black numbered dial to the back of the silver weight. Exclude the exposed shaft.

02First photographs

  1. Overhead: whole deck, no record and no dust cover. Include one with the mat on and one with it off. Centre the camera over the cabinet; make opposite edges as parallel as possible.
  2. Front and right side: square-on, with the lens at cabinet height. Include the feet and a vertical ruler beside the deck, in the same plane as the side being photographed.
  3. Control close-ups: recessed power switch, pitch/reset area, and spare-headshell stand. Add one clear side view of the arm base and counterweight.

Use soft light and a normal or modest telephoto view. Step back instead of using an ultra-wide lens. Keep the original full-resolution files. We can choose the next small measurements after checking these views.

Exterior measurements apply to this model and specimen. Replacement feet, mat thickness, production changes and modifications should be recorded alongside the numbers. The representative interior stays separate.
